[review] Manga — part 1

*in no particular order*

Fruits Basket / Furuba  — I love the whole story. This is recommended to those who watched the anime version, since the good parts of the story starts where it ended in the anime (too bad, I know.) It can also be noticed that the rendering of the characters becomes better by every new chapter that comes out. (compare the first chapter to the last one. There’s such a big difference, which is also good, since you get to see that the characters really have matured during the span of the story) The whole Fruits Basket story doesn’t only revolve around on how to get rid of the curse. If you’re a big shoujo fan, then the romance and character development in this manga is something not to miss. Honestly, this is the best manga (and longest. lol) that I have read so far. You would get the feeling of contentment in the end too. Each character (esp. of the zodiacs) was given their rightful ending, and it seems though as if all the holes made throught the manga has been filled with answers that would leave you feeling satisfied.

Ouran High School Host Club (ongoing) — Simply, love. :) ) This is my favorite anime, so I ended up buying the manga too. Every single cent of my money has been well spent, ’cause every chapter is freaking hilarious. Also recommended to those who watched the anime. Like Furuba, the good parts starts in the manga (esp. the REALLY SLOW CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.) XD lol. Still, the characters’ slowness with facing their feelings is what made me love this anime after all. :) ) New characters are introduced, Haruhi starts to feel things, and Mori and Hunny still doesn’t graduate. Definetely a must!

OTHELLO — I read this during my sleepover in my cousin’s house, and I finished it in one go! It’s good! It has that Nana or Paradise Kiss feel to it. It’s a bit mature, but a good read. I enjoyed every bit of it. Recommended to J-rockers or those who just like to read Nana or Parakiss-like stories. The title doesn’t have any relation with the story. (lol)

FUSHIGI YUGI: GENBU KAIDEN (ongoing) — Even if you were not a fan of the original Fushigi Yugi series, you would still enjoy reading this. Honestly, I prefer this series than the first one. It’s has less mature content, the priestess’ character is lovable (not annoying), the romance part is bittersweet…they’re not rushed or anything and you could feel that it’s really “real” love that they’re feeling, the artwork is awesome like the usual, the pacing is great, and it’s has lots of funny parts. :) ) To those who watched the anime, Hikitsu and Tomite (both Genbu celestial warriors) was featured in it, guarding one of those caves. (sorry, i forgot what it was exactly) :’) The ending is unpredictable, and the whole story is interesting because it tells of how the book of the Four Gods came to exist and why the curse continues on until Miaka’s and Yui’s time.

HER MAJESTY’S DOG — I have only read the first volume, but it’s already in my favorites list. I can perfectly remember blushing really hard, even though I was only in the 5 page. :) ) The plot is really interesting, and something different. The author herself mentioned that it was intended to be an all-out horror manga, but she somehow ended up mixing romantic parts to the story. It IS scary, since the ghosts were drawn really scarily or morbid, but the romance parts makes you forget about it. lol. [It's hard to find scans of this manga online, so it's preferable to buy the volumes instead.]

A THOUSAND YEARS OF SNOW / SENNEN NO YUKI —- it’s sad that this manga is put on hiatus, but I’m still praying that this will be continued. The story revolves around a girl, a vampire, and a werewolf (well, he’s more of a side character). It’s not exactly scary, and it’s nothing like Vampire Knight, but it still is good for a 2-volume long manga.  Recommended to those who likes Ouran, since this too is written by Bisco Hatori. A scene was even shown in the Ouran anime, wherein two of the characters were naked. :) )

THE GENTLEMAN ALLIANCE / SHINSHI DOUMEI CROSS — The first few chapters were a little bit of a bummer, but then, as the story progresses, it gets better, and you’ll end up wanting to read the rest of it. Honestly, I read this because the president looked a lot like Takuto (from Full Moon wo Sagashite). The manga had its twists and whatsoever, but the ending was good. The characters are all lovable. You may find some of them to be hateful at first, but then a reason gets to be told as to why they act really bad, so I ended up liking them more than the leads. :) ) The art is just…wow. Something that you would expect from Arina Tanemura. :D
